The "Behaviour, plasticity and memory in larval zebrafish" group in the MeLiS Research Unit seeks to hire an Assistant engineer (AI) for an initial contract of 1 year, with potential for renewal. The team studies the genetic and cellular/circuit basis of simple behaviours and learning/memory paradigms in larval zebrafish, with a particular focus on the mechanisms leading to habituation of visual behaviours. For this we exploit various techniques including genetic engineering (mutants, transgenics), functional imaging, and quantitative behavioural analyses.
The person recruited will be involved in this research program by performing various activities in support of ongoing projects, including genetic engineering (CRISPR/Cas9, genotyping), maintenance of zebrafish colonies, behavioural experiments, immunostaining/in situ-hybridization, and microscopy.
Activities
- Basic zebrafish husbandry
- Maintenance and creation of transgenic and mutant zebrafish lines (microinjection)
- Molecular biology - Cloning of transgenic constructs, genotyping, DNA/RNA purification, PCR, qPCR, western blot, ELISA
- Running and analyzing zebrafish behavioural experiments
- Maintaining stock solutions and general lab management
- Microscopy (live and fixed, epifluorescence, confocal)
Skills
Essential
- Knowledge of genetics, molecular and cellular biology
- Molecular biology techniques (PCR, constructions, etc.)
- Ability to organize, prioritize, document and analyze work
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English (daily working language of the Team)
- Fast learning, curiosity and enthusiasm
- Certification in “Experimentation Animale”
Desirable
- Experience with zebrafish
- Experience with confocal microscopy
- Programming/scripting experience (python, Matlab, etc).
