Individual responsibilities:

“Cook” liquid metal alloys according to existing and new “recipes”, initially in small batches.
Scale up liquid alloy production to large batches.
Select and operate low-voltage, high-current power supplies for active flow and thickness control of liquid metal (LM) layers.
Build support structures for LM experiments.
Install electrodes and other sensors and actuators.
Set up, calibrate and operate electric, ultrasound and optical diagnostics of LM thickness and flow-rate. Set up the lighting for reproducible optical measurements with short exposure, hi rep rate measurements (fast cameras).
Clean LM experimental setup after wetting, splashing, instabilities etc. to maintain a clear view for optical diagnostics.
On field work, both on-site or off-site (at client’s site) for installation of new LM sub-assemblies such as pumps or diagnostics, or full systems, such as LM loops or closed-loop feedback stabilization systems.

Responsibilities as a team member

Work closely with the other experimental members of the LM department, namely the LM experimentalist, the LM pump specialist, the LM stabilization specialist and the material scientist in charge of corrosion, tritium separation and other issues. Help the whole LM team making their experiments and products a success.
Give feedback on improving the specifications and scaling up the production of LM materials, subsystems (pumps etc.) and full systems.
Occasionally assist the building manager and the safety engineer in designing, implementing, monitoring and maintaining the building layout, the safe and environmentally responsible exhaust of vapors and disposal of solid and liquid by-products, handling of dangerous items and materials, and installation of systems to detect and respond to fires and other hazards in the lab.
